The European Union has adopted a new directive, the Restriction of Hazardous Substances, known as RoHS or “Lead-free” legislation. It restricts the use of certain substances such as lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, Polybrominated biphenyls（PBBs）, Polybrominated diphenyl ethers（PBDEs）. This directive applies to all electrical and electronic equipments and components. The RoHS directive will come into force on July 1st, 2006.
