微囊藻毒素是一类具生物活性的单环七肽,石房蛤毒素Saxitoxin acetate这类毒素主要由淡水藻类铜绿微囊藻 (Microcystins aeruginosa)产生,此外其他种类的微囊藻,如绿色微囊藻(M.viridis)、惠氏微囊藻(M.wesenbergii)以及鱼腥藻 (Anabaena)、念珠藻(Nostoc)、颤藻(Oscillatoria)的一些种或株系也能产生这类毒素。目前所检测到的微囊藻毒素异构体已超过50多种。
